Aurora has tried 0% budgets before — and every single time it resulted in significant tax spikes in later years, depleted reserves, deferred maintenance, and higher long-term costs for residents.
We cannot afford to go backwards.
No responsible leader would suggest using a reserve – any reserve – to fund day to day operational costs. Why? Because its not sustainable, and it’s not responsible.
A “0 % tax levy” is just politics dressed up as a plan.
It may generate a headline or two, but it’s not a responsible approach to municipal budgeting – and history proves it.
Aurora expects better.
My priority in every budget cycle is to ensure financial stability, safeguard our essential services and keep Aurora strong today, tomorrow and beyond.
The People’s budget achieves that.
And as your mayor, I will continue to stand for long-term, responsible planning for the future of our community – not quick fixes or empty promises.
