I have just returned from four productive days in Ottawa for the 2026 Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) Conference.
As a member of the AMO Board of Directors and part of the Regional and Single Tier Caucus, this conference offers the opportunity to connect with municipal leaders from across Ontario and engage directly with provincial Ministers and officials on the issues that matter to Aurora.
The discussions were substantive — municipal infrastructure and the growing fiscal pressures on municipalities, housing and affordability, asset management, community safety and emergency preparedness, economic development, and protecting strong local governance.
These aren’t abstract policy discussions. These issues directly impact what you pay, the services you receive, how we grow, how we build and maintain our infrastructure, and how accountable your local government is to you.
As an AMO Board member, I also participated in discussions and conference sessions focused on the future of municipal infrastructure, sustainable decision-making, provincial legislative changes, affordable housing and the challenges municipalities face in delivering the services residents rely on every day.
That’s why being at AMO matters. These conferences provide an opportunity to build relationships, advocate for Aurora, and make sure our priorities are heard directly by the people making decisions at Queen’s Park.
Four busy days. Important conversations. And as always, Aurora’s interests were front and centre.
