Aurora Long Term Care

Today marks a momentous occasion for our community! I am thrilled to share that the Ontario Government is using surplus lands at 50 Bloomington to build a new 160-bed long-term care home for Francophone seniors right here in York Region. This facility will provide 24/7 support services and cultural amenities, ensuring our seniors receive the culturally appropriate care they need and deserve.

Equally exciting, this project also secures more than five acres of new parkland for our community — a space that will be preserved and enjoyed by residents for generations to come. This new green space will not only complement the care facility but will also provide families, children, and seniors across Aurora with an expanded place to gather, connect, and enjoy the outdoors.

Aurora has been fighting for these lands — and today, we delivered. I am proud that we were able to bring this vision across the finish line. These investments — from new long-term care to much-needed parkland in the southern part of town — are vitally important as we continue to grow. They ensure we are providing the services our residents deserve and help make Aurora one of the most desirable places in Ontario to live and raise a family.

I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the Communauté du Trille blanc, the Ontario government, and our generous community donors for their unwavering support in making this a reality. Together, we are not only creating a nurturing home for our seniors, but also enhancing our town with new parkland that strengthens the quality of life for all residents.

This project is a true testament to what we can accomplish when we work together — we get things done. And that’s what leadership is all about.

  1. Always appreciate being kept in touch regarding relevant community matters.
Here is my Very critical situation.
My 94 yr old mother is from Montreal where she worked & raised her family since when they came off the boat in 1952. She is a francophone. Although she is currently in LTC, She needs to be among her peers in this new LTC facility at 50 Bloomington. How do I register her ? Who is in charge of residents? She would do much better being with her French speaking peers at this last stage of her life. We could give her that sense of belonging. Please contact me at 647-469-2222.

  2. Good Morning Mayor Mrakas,

We applaud the announcement that the Ontario government will build a 160 bed LTC home on the Bloomington site. However we question that this LTC home is labelled as a Francophone LTC home. In a civilized society that claims to be inclusive, this LTC facility should welcome ALL seniors in need of this level of care. What is the policy on granting a much needed bed to a senior who does not come from a Francophone background? If the policy is to have a stated preference for those from a Francophone background, that is exclusionary and to the detriment of the overall population, the majority of whom are not Francophone! Even if a small number of non Francophone seniors were to be granted a bed, that would instantly foster isolation, division & resentment within the facility. This facility will be built on the sweat equity & taxes paid by Ontarians. As such, it should welcome ALL Ontario seniors in need!
