I want to provide an important update regarding the Blue Bin issue that so many of you have raised concerns about.
Yesterday, the N6 Mayors met with staff from Minister McCarthy’s office, and I also had the opportunity to speak directly with Premier Ford about the significant challenges this rollout has created for residents across our communities. As I have said from the beginning, I will not stop advocating until we see a practical, workable solution that addresses the needs of our residents — especially our seniors, those with mobility challenges, and households where the current bin size simply does not work.
Following our discussions, Minister McCarthy released the following statement:
“We have heard the concerns from residents in York Region about the sizing of recycling bins and the challenges it can pose, especially for those who are older or have mobility difficulties.
In response, we are working with Circular Materials and service providers like GFL to ensure appropriately sized bins that meet residents’ unique needs will be available.”
— Todd McCarthy, Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks
I am proud of the unified stance taken by the N6 Mayors in making sure the voices of our communities were heard loud and clear. I am also appreciative that both the Minister and the Premier listened to the concerns we brought forward on behalf of our residents.
More details will follow as the Province finalizes next steps and communicates outcomes. Once we have concrete information, I will update our community immediately through my social media channels and my Mayor’s Newsletter.
Thank you, Aurora, for continuing to share your feedback. Please know — I hear you, and I will continue to fight for solutions that work for our community. #LeadershipThatGetsThingsDone

If the minister won’t help then I suggest we place all our trash, recycling and green waste into the coffins and let GFL sort it out. If they don’t care about us, why should we care about a business whose CEO makes $68 million
The salary of the CEO of GFL Environmental Inc., Patrick Dovigi, is not a single figure, but his base salary for 2023 was approximately \(\$1.5\) million, while his total compensation for the year was nearly \(\$68.5\) million. In 2024, the base salary was around \(\$2.3\) million, and the total annual compensation was approximately \(\$67\) million.
We need to stand together and not put up with mandates that effect our citizens
This is like using one big car to transport 1000 people to work so “someone “ make more money !!
If a “garbage “ CEO is making 68 million dollars a year, there is definitely something wrong somewhere! The garbage is smiling “fishy “
Dang you are right. A company who’s CEO is making around 65 million dollars in “EXTRAS” on to of 2 million dollars basic salary is not in any kind of hardship to need to milk the public more than they are already doing.
