Committee Update – December 2, 2024

This week at Committee, Council approved the Affordable Housing Action Plan! This is a “Made in Aurora” approach that focuses on tackling affordable and attainable housing challenges right here in our community.

The plan was carefully designed with clear goals and specific targets that make sense for Aurora with a goal towards finding real solutions. It includes practical steps we can take to create more affordable housing options and make it easier for people to find homes that fit their needs and budgets.

The next step is for the plan to be officially ratified at next week’s Council meeting. Once that happens, we can start moving forward to put these ideas into action.

I’m proud of the work that went into this plan from both staff and all our residents. This is an important step forward for our town as we have a detailed plan with a focus on making sure Aurora is a place where everyone has the opportunity to live, work, and thrive. #LeadershipThatGetsThingsDone

  1. Will there be deeply affordable housing for the working poor, for those on disability? In a town such as Aurora even illegal basement apartments are beyond the means of minimum wage earners. As aging parents of one special needs child, this haunts our dreams.
