Council Update – March 25, 2025

Last night at Council we approved on consent, important upgrades to the Aurora War Memorial and Cenotaph, a cherished landmark that holds deep significance in our community.

As we prepare to commemorate the 100th anniversary of this historic site this year, these enhancements will ensure it continues to serve as a place of reflection, remembrance, and respect for years to come.

The planned improvements include correcting engravings to properly honour those who served, restoring park pathways, and adding permanent seating to enhance comfort for visitors. Upgrades to the lighting around the Korean War Memorial and Light Armoured Vehicle will improve visibility and safety, while new wreath standards will provide better support for remembrance ceremonies. Additionally, general maintenance will be carried out to preserve the site’s unique heritage features.

These thoughtful enhancements are not only necessary but meaningful, as they ensure the Aurora War Memorial and Cenotaph remains a dignified and respectful space for future generations. This project reflects our community’s unwavering commitment to honouring those who made the ultimate sacrifice, and I’m proud we are taking these important steps to preserve such a vital part of Aurora’s history. #LeadershipThatGetsThingsDone
