As a resident of Aurora for over 10 years now, I have seen a lot of changes since I moved here. Coming from a small town, I appreciated not only what Aurora had to offer at the time, but also its ambitions to keep its quaint charm and characteristics while embracing growth. I’m confident Tom Mrakas is a big part of how well Aurora has managed that. I can only imagine a mayor’s workload (which also seems to be around the clock!) and I doubt many people are up for the task. I can’t say the same for Tom! I’ve seen him at new small business openings, festivals, sporting events, fundraisers, and council meetings. I’ve seen him on social media keeping Aurorans informed on current events, policy challenges, and budget issues. With us, he celebrates our victories and mourns our losses. I can also attest to him responding to community concerns raised in my neighbourhood this past year about a housing development: He was personally engaged, a constant professional, and completely transparent dealing with homeowners. I think a vote for Tom is a vote for a mayor that isn’t afraid to make hard decisions, who is willing to meet, listen to, and support constituents, who isn’t just leading the community but is an integral part of the community, and ultimately who is a person that will advocate for Aurora firmly and proudly during provincial government dealings and negotiations. He’s definitely got my vote!
