This letter is written in support of the re-election of Tom Mrakas as he seeks another term of service to the Town of Aurora.
Over the past few years I have worked with Tom in many capacities and also experienced his support as Mayor of Aurora. His unwavering commitment to honouring Treaty relationships with the Mississauga Nation including Georgina Island and New Credit are outstanding.
Tom has lead the public awareness campaign to insert visual respect of the Treaty Lands of the Mississauga Nation through strategic placement of the Land Acknowledgement , various public permanent art placements and inclusion of community members contributions.
His outstanding and hearfelt respect of my work and contributions is supported by the Indigenous Relations Committee who continuously seek guidance from Anishinaabe council and lived experience.
Tom has showed up at every event I have been a part of in the Town of Aurora and given his extraordinary schedule I personally am honoured by his presence, words and contributions when called up.
His lived experience and obvious love of the Town of Aurora makes him an ideal candidate for re-election His unwavering belief in all citizens ideas, needs contribute deeply to a sense of belonging that is truly authentic.
As an Anishinaabe Ojibway community contributor to the Town of Aurora I fully endorse and support the re-election of Tom Mrakas. His history making work affirms the work of reconciliation with Indigenous People and has restored right relations with the 2 Treaty holding communities whose history is honoured as part of the Auroran narrative both historically and in a contemporary sense.
