Our approach to housing has shifted dramatically since 2018: from less talk to more action.
We reduced red tape and inefficiency to make it easier to get shovels in the ground – to provide a wide range of housing options – without compromising the quality and standards our community expects
Since signing our housing pledge with the Province in 2023, we’ve approved more than 4,200 new residential units — already more than halfway to our goal of 8,000 by 2031.
To ensure a broader mix of housing options for our residents, we’ve approved more than 1,100 purpose-built rental units — the largest expansion of housing, across both ownership and rental, that Aurora has seen in decades.
And this year, we’re taking things a step further.
We plan to pre-zone for four-storey buildings on our main corridors – and for five on Yonge Street – that can accommodate a greater number of units . . .
So that more people can live near transit, services, and amenities that make their lives easier.
This is : Growth with character, Growth with intention, Growth that reflects aurora’s values… #LeadershipThatGetsThingsDone

The hastily constructed units on the North side of Wellingtn Street are uniformly an eye sore, and will be a rundown tenament area in 10 to 15 years. More creative, eye pleasing thought should have been applied to the outward appearance of these eyesores.
