There was some discussion last night at Council, with regards to internet voting. While Council did not make a final decision as to the way the 2018 municipal election will be held, the motion that was on the floor was to pass a bylaw that would at least allow all three methods of voting (internet, tabulator – current form, and hybrid) as the ByLaw needs to be passed by May 1st under the Municipal Act. With the bylaw in place, Council now has the option of proceeding to voting by one of the three methods outlined. Staff will then come back to Council at the May 23rd meeting with a report answering the many questions and concerns raised by Council with regards to various forms of voting. Council can then make a final decision. The motion passed 8-1 (Councillor Thom opposed). So there will be more on this next month. But here is what I said last night as to some of the reasons I believe having the option of internet voting is the right thing to do
