Partners for Climate Protection

I am excited to announce that The Town of Aurora has received recognition for completing Milestones 1, 2 and 3 of the Partners for Climate Protection program (PCP). The five-step Milestone Framework helps municipalities to take action on the effects of climate change and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

By reaching Milestone 3, Aurora is moving steadily through the PCP framework and towards a greener community. The completion of the plan is a major step in our fight against climate change. Aurora’s plan is progressive and wide reaching and outlines a series of strategies that achieve a 22 per cent reduction of community-level greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 from 2018 levels. These levels put Aurora on the path towards an 80 per cent emissions reduction by 2050.

I am looking forward to the implementation of further actions, as well as the monitoring of progress and reporting on results, and achieving the remaining milestones in the PCP framework as we continue to be a leading municipality in the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and our commitment to fighting the effects of climate change.

Here are some of the upcoming Town-led projects as part of the implementation of our CEP

  • Research and design of a tiered code/green standard that encourages high energy efficiency in new residential and commercial buildings
  • Development of an Active Transportation Master Plan for Aurora to support a transportation mode shift
  • Expansion of electric vehicle charging stations at Town facilities with a user-fee system to support community-level EV and low carbon vehicle adoption
