Request an Exchange Wednesday Afternoon

BLUE BIN UPDATE – HOW TO REQUEST THE SMALLER 65-GALLON CART

As promised, here are the details on how residents can request the new smaller 65-gallon cart.

If you want to exchange the 95-gallon cart for the smaller 65-gallon option, you will be able to make your request starting Wednesday, November 26 in the afternoon, through one of the following:

These options will be live Wednesday afternoon for Aurora residents.

Please note: Beginning January 1st, recycling collection for all residents will be bi-weekly (every other week) under the new Producer Responsibility program.

How the Exchange Will Work

Once you submit your request, Circular Materials and GFL will provide instructions directly on how and when to place the 95-gallon cart out for exchange, which will likely commence end of December/early January.

If you plan to keep the 95-gallon cart, you don’t need to do anything.

What to Do With Your Current Blue Bins

If you are repurposing your existing blue bins, you may keep them — no action required.

Otherwise, there will be a designated drop-off location available within the Town to drop off existing bins.

Full details will be provided before January 1st, as the Province transitions to full producer responsibility.

Additional Options Starting January 1st

Second Cart:

Residents who require a second cart will be able to request one starting January 1st. If another recycling cart is deemed necessary, a second cart will be provided at no cost.

Special Accommodations:

Beginning January 1st, residents who require special accommodations — including seniors who cannot roll the cart, or those with mobility or disability challenges — will have the opportunity to request support directly from Circular Materials.

If you have an inquiry regarding the use of recycling carts or require assistance, please contact GFL at 1-833-779-4351 or [email protected]

As a reminder, recycling is fully a Producer Responsibility program under Provincial legislation. As of January 1st, the Town has no authority over Blue Bin collection, cart sizes, schedules, or program decisions. All program operations and decisions rest solely with Circular Materials and GFL.

However, while the Town is not responsible for recycling, if at any point you are having issues dealing with Circular Materials or GFL, please reach out to me directly. I am here for you — and I will continue to advocate on your behalf whenever needed.

  1. We have not received our bin yet but as we are seniors could we please request that we get the 65 gallon bin , as we have a 300 ft driveway to wheel it down every other week and as I said are seniors , Thankyou for considering

  2. Dear Sir/Madam,

Following the recent update regarding the blue bin exchange program, I would like to request a replacement of my current 95-gallon recycling cart with the smaller 65-gallon cart.

Please let me know the steps I need to follow to complete this exchange.

    Thank you,
    Hossein Agha Beigi

  3. The actual dimensions of the 95 & 65 Gal carts needs to be provided–While the smaller size sounds good, most people are going to be very surprised to find that the 65 Gal cart is still not going to fit in their garage.

  4. We would appreciate having the smaller blue bin — that is probably still a little large for us. Thanks for some progress on this matter

  5. For comparison, Toronto cart dimensions are as follows:
95 Gal–28.7″W x 33.7″L x 45.1″H. 65 Gal–26.7″W x28.1″L x 40.6″H. Aurora carts would be nearly identical, so compared to the 95 Gal, the 65 Gal Width is only 2″ less; Length is only 5.6″ less; and Height is 4.5″ less. Most people have no problem with the height of the cart, it is the footprint that it occupies that is the BIG issue. Given the above, the smaller 65 Gal cart is not going to achieve much at all.

    1. I agree. I’m surprised that the smaller one isn’t that much of an improvement. At least I’ll be able to see over the smaller one.

  6. The online portal linked above doesn’t work. Going to the town’s website there’s a link there as well and it also doesn’t work. Not sure who I need to contact to make this exchange but please get it done.

  7. The link still doesn’t work – it’s 2:25 pm – would have been nice if the time had been indicated and not just Wednesday afternoon.

  8. For those asking all the info and the dimensions of the exchange bin versus the existing bin is detailed in the exchange link provided by Mr Mrakas

  9. Will the town be circulating the garbage and recycling calendar as in previous years?

If so, will the Blue Bin schedule be included, or will Circular Materials be sending residents a separate pickup schedule?

  10. Residents in Aurora mostly have single car garages. It will still be very hard to fit the 65 gallon bin in the garage. Toronto offers four sizes of blue bins, why are we not being offered the same options when apparently this is being mandated Province wide? Toronto’s Medium Blue Bin – 120 liters – 39.1″H x 23″D x 20.2″W, this size would probably accommodate most residents. It’s much more manageable in size to accommodate it in your garage. I don’t understand the logic of this recycling company, why they offer only two choices. Hardly a choice since taxpayers are flipping the bill for it. I thought we would be getting a real choice on this matter.

  11. These so called ‘smaller’ recycle bins, that are being offered for exchange, are still too big! There really isn’t that much of a difference in size (a few inches difference) from the monstrosity that we received…which is more of an industrial sized bin rather than a residential one!
Why were we not given the option of 120L or 240L wheeled bins. THAT would have made a huge difference for smaller households and for seniors.

  12. We have requested for the smaller Blue Bin, when will the smaller Blue Bin be delivered?
    we live on Millcliff Circle
