Shop Local – ABC Taskforce

Tom Mrakas

Strong, successful local businesses are the lifeblood of any vibrant community. The Mayor’s Aurora Business Continuity (ABC) Taskforce was created to look for creative and innovative ways to support our local businesses during these challenging times, in particular, as we take steps to reopen the Ontario economy.

Over the past month, the ABC Taskforce has been working to develop strategies to support and help local businesses navigate the fast-changing regulatory environment that is key to successfully re-opening.

As a first step, the Taskforce has developed a resource for businesses that expands on the Provincial guidelines for reopening to ensure that clear and concise guidelines are available to all our businesses as they prepare to re- open.  We expect to roll-out the guidelines shortly.

Secondly, the need for a Shop Local campaign promoting our local, community based businesses – our stores, our restaurants, our services – will be essential to successfully jumpstarting our local economy. The ABC Taskforce is currently developing a targeted ShopLocal marketing campaign that is aimed at increasing awareness and driving people to our local businesses.

But there is more work to be done.  In the coming weeks, our Taskforce will continue to roll-out supports for our businesses.  We will continue to work together to develop the supports necessary for Aurora’s business community to move from a state of just re-opening to one of a thriving, sustainable economy again.

I also want to express my appreciation for the continuing support of Magna, Treasure Hill and Enbridge for sitting on the taskforce — and for their generous financial donations to help fund important stimulus activities.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me.

I am here for you!
