The Town is updating its Sport Plan to better reflect the needs of all residents and organizations. To create a plan that truly serves our community, we need input from those who know community sports best—our local sports organizations. Over the next few weeks, the Town’s consultant will reach out to gather feedback that will directly shape our town’s sports strategy. This direct feedback will ensure that each organization’s specific needs and ideas are heard and considered, rather than being generalized as part of a group submission.
A diverse range of voices is essential to building a sports plan that benefits everyone. All of our local sports organizations expertise and experience will help us develop a strategy that promotes growth, accessibility, and excellence in sports and recreation for all Aurora residents.
I am looking forward to creating a practical plan that encourages sports participation and serves the best interests of the Aurora community.

Re Library Square opening…I can’t believe that to attend the “grand opening” one must Purchase tickets-Aurora seems to be undergoing a building boom, surely all the new tax revenue being generated should at least be able to allow residents access to this one time special event at a venue that has taken years to build while disrupting traffic, created parking issues and limited access to our library.
Re Sports Plan update, the update is years overdue, the current “plan” is 8 years old and should have been updated years ago. Mention is made of recreational needs for seniors. It seems that Aurora is becoming a major centre for senior’s residences, new ones being constructed continually.
As a senior who tries to stay active by being involved in the sport of Pickle Ball, the facilities and opportunities in Aurora are woefully inadequate, especially compared to other nearby towns and municipalities. The dearth of dedicated PB courts is totally disheartening to the local PB community. The “Senior Centre” where 1 indoor court in a room which was probably never designed as an indoor sports facility is overcrowded, the
only dedicated outdoor PB venue in town at the park on Mavrinac with only 2 courts has resulted in angry confrontations between competing permit holders and unhappy local residents. This has resulted in the majority of Aurora PB players finding it necessary to go to other municipalities to be able to play.
The feedback that I’ve been getting from individuals who have approached the Town regarding these issues has not been very positive, indicating that an activity which is the fastest growing sport in North America especially with a huge involvement and participation of seniors is not very high on Aurora’s priority list and is very disappointing.
I sincerely hope that the updated Sports Plan will address these issues seriously and thoughtfully, active seniors need and want our town to be able to provide adequate facilities for the local PB community.
Thank you for your comments. No need to Purchase anything to attend the official ribbon cutting and grand opening on the 21st, look forward to seeing you there. As for the sports plan and pickleball, we are looking at the best ways to develop more pickleball courts in the Town of Aurora and look forward to hearing from everyone in our Town about the recreational needs of our community.
Sorry Mayor Tom, I thought a ticket purchase was needed for opening, my error.
