There has been overwhelming support from residents for Aurora Town Square and the continued enhancements that are turning it into the true heart of our community — a place that brings people together, supports local events, and drives activity in our downtown. The illuminated “Aurora” letters are part of that vision.
It’s unfortunate that there has been some misinformation from a select few around this project, so I appreciate the opportunity to clarify the facts.
The total cost of the purchase and installation is $84,744 — well below the originally budgeted amount that was included in the 2024 budget and approved by Council.
The letters will be installed this June, and we’re kicking things off the right way — lighting them up red and white as we cheer on Team Canada in the World Cup and celebrate Aurora’s own Alistair Johnston on the world stage. A proud moment for our town, and for Canada.
And this isn’t just a one-time feature — these letters will be illuminated in different colours throughout the year, recognizing events, celebrations, and causes that matter to our community.
This is about building a community people are proud of — and continuing to deliver a downtown that reflects the energy and spirit of Aurora.
