Town of Aurora Sport Tourism Strategy 2022-2026

Town of Aurora Sport Tourism Strategy 2022-2026

Last month, Council approved a Sport Tourism Strategy 2022-2026. This strategy, developed in consultation with key stakeholders, provides a collaborative approach to making Aurora a destination for sport participants and their families and enhancing the experience for those visitors. Celebrating hometown athletes, bringing new events to Aurora to contribute to economic growth and promoting active lifestyles in the community will result in positive cultural and social outcomes and contribute to this strategy’s success.

The benefits of sports tourism to our community and our kids are invaluable. It will positively impact community partnerships, support businesses, attract future visitors and celebrate the health and well-being of our entire community, while ensuring sport and recreation is a short- and long-term priority and an important aspect of our towns thriving economic growth.

As part of this Sport Tourism Strategy, through our partnership with the Aurora Chamber of Commerce, we will be developing a Sport Visitor Experience Package to be added to the Explore Aurora website. This platform will be a one-stop shop for sporting participants visiting the Town and will aid them in planning activities, places to stay and local businesses where they can shop or eat, well in advance of arriving in our Town. A temporary page will be set up in 2022 with the full launch of the Sport Visitor Experience Package in 2023.

We all know Aurora has an incredible, active sports community and I am very proud to see the progress being made with Aurora’s Sport Tourism Strategy. I look forward to seeing this strategy in action in our community and to the positive opportunities for our local sporting organizations, athletes and businesses.
