Update on 14452 Yonge Street

I’m excited to share an update about 14452 Yonge Street. Today, York Region staff have confirmed that the Region will be moving forward with the site plan agreement approved in 2021.

Per the approved agreement where the pumping station is, the Region will move ahead with adding parking and an entrance to the trail on this site for public use.  The restoration plan is going forward and the parking area should be complete by September/October 2024; the plantings will follow right after.

This is fantastic news. The new parking and trailhead entrance will enable residents to easily access the beautiful trails, the pet cemetery (once it opens), and provide connectivity to the new park that will be developed with input from the public.

This addition will make it easier for everyone to enjoy our natural and recreational spaces and encourage more outdoor activities.

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to work on this exciting project!

  1. Tom,
As always, thanks for your newsletter.

Can you assist with my confusion, please? I had thought this property was designated for some homeless shelter project. Do I have the wrong property?
I’m all in favour of trails; but even more so in favour of caring for some who cannot manage.

I will appreciate your response and clarification.

    Thanks Tom.

  2. A key feature of any successful community is looking out for one another. A parking lot instead of emergency and transitional housing seems a bitter pill to swallow for our community. Let’s demonstrate the great community that we are by expediting emergency and transitional housing, as originally planned for 14452 Yonge Street.

  3. Hello Tom,

Thank you for sharing the news. We recently visited the new trial and thoroughly enjoyed it. We’re pleased to see it is now accessible to a broader public!

While we are sorry that the shelter project has been pivoted at this point, we understand that this decision was made in response to the concerns raised during the public meetings and based on the facts, it’s not a suitable location. We look forward to seeing the new proposals for emergency and transitional housing, especially with consideration for a better-suited location.

    Best,
