This week at Council we discussed what could be considered one of the most exciting projects that our Town could see unfold this year – \u00a0the addition of the \u201cCanadian Achievements Diversity and Inclusion Mural.\u201d<\/p>\n
Council engaged in a lively discussion about this initiative. The majority of council agrees that this will be an incredible addition to our Town as a physical celebration of our inclusivity and diversity.<\/p>\n
The mural development process is like others we have previously undertaken \u2013 the Town will issue a call for artists and final approval of the mural will come before Council.<\/p>\n
Many locations were looked at for this mural, but I believe that there is one location that stands out and is the ideal fit for the mural. That is the north facing wall of 15242 Yonge Street at Yonge and Wellington. This is the heart of our downtown core and the entrance to what will become a revitalized core.<\/p>\n
What better location than the entrance to our downtown!<\/p>\n
This location, in my opinion, is ideal as it will allow for the new mural to become an extension of the existing mural and become a fixture of our Town for generations to come.<\/p>\n
With the \u201cGreat Canadian Achievements\u201d mural on the east side and the new \u201cDiversity and Inclusion Mural\u201d on the west side and the rainbow crosswalk in between this will not only be a focal point of our Town and speak to our celebration of inclusivity and diversity, but will become a focal point and landmark intersection in the GTA.<\/p>\n
The motion to approve the next steps which will see the call for artists go out and the selection committee\u2019s to review and choice of a submission with final approval coming to Council was approved 6-1.<\/p>\n
I look forward to seeing the submissions from the art community and the one which will ultimately be chosen and brought before Council for final approval.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
